One encounters a series of these pretty tile mosaics embedded in the walk between slate slabs. Many have a metal leaf in the pattern. I think of the ancient cultures and their use of mosaics. One day I think I would like to make one at Southfork. A few years ago in Israel they uncovered a very old chapel from Roman times that had in its floor the two fish, near where the holy table stood, as a symbol of the Gospel story. So much for those who disdain icons and stained glass. Maybe that is what I will build.
