Home Security

1943 Winchester Repeating Arms magazine fed, gas operated, semi automatic 30 caliber M1 Carbine just like Daddy used on Okinawa with a few post-war improvements at the armory. With hollow-point rounds it is guaranteed to make a lasting impression on any would be thief.

Mosaic Tile Promenade

Carroll Creek and Market
One encounters a series of these pretty tile mosaics embedded in the walk between slate slabs. Many have a metal leaf in the pattern. I think of the ancient cultures and their use of mosaics. One day I think I would like to make one at Southfork. A few years ago in Israel they uncovered a very old chapel from Roman times that had in its floor the two fish, near where the holy table stood, as a symbol of the Gospel story. So much for those who disdain icons and stained glass. Maybe that is what I will build.

Rappahannock Canal

Fredericksburg
I am on a pleasant trek along this trail and am looking a canoe that ran into a bit of a problem on the Warner Rapids (named after senator Warner who got the dam removed). In the foreground is a portion of the dam and a plaque to senator Warner. To the left are remnants of the dam. The fellows dislodged their canoe as I prepared this post. This canal was a potential avenue of approach that the Alabama Infantry Brigade under Wilcox guarded in the Fredericksburg Campaign of December 1862. They received artillery bombardment but no direct attack

UK2US62

Whitsunday, Fredericksburg
Today at Holy Cross we celebrated the Supper of the Lord according to the 1549 Prayer Book with only the prayer the King Edward modified. It was the first prayer book and the first full liturgy in English. After communion we retired to a local pub to feast. I followed one of our church members and noticed this tag. Just as she came from the England to the US in 1962, today we brought the 1st Prayer book from England to Holy Cross on Pentacost 2010

Harewood

Old Western Virginia
A few miles west of Charles Towne one comes to the home of Col Samuel Washington as this marker states. I noted the WV shield on the marker and thought the symbol of two rifles crossed was appropriate as this was formed illegally by force of arms in opposition to the Constitution

Twilight Blossoms

This flowering bush sits in front of my apartment. About this time of year in goes into bloom. I had never notice it in twilight until coming home at about 8:00 pm from a long walk with my camera looking for an interesting shot. Five miles later I found it 100 feet from my front door. I was pleasantly surprised at the BB rendering. The lavender flowers are beautiful.

Lexington Mourns

This day my hometown of Lexington mourned the loss of a fallen officer murdered while performing his duty in response to a call. Officer Bryan Duran, an Air Force veteran, was one of Lexington's finest citizens. He passed away before dawn on the 30th: On Sunday past, and on this day, I reflected upon the Psalm 130 appointed for the Order for this week in regard to his passing, and especially verse 6:

"My soul fleet unto the Lord before the morning watch; I say; before the morning watch."

Amen
