Little Red Bridge

I always have enjoyed this red bridge as a subject and in the morning's wet snow it stands out!  The rail, tree, and bench make an interesting arrangement from this angle  -- shot squatting

Winter Wonderland

About five weeks ago I stood in this spot and recorded a pretty fall scene. Today on my birthday I got the this treat.  I ended my post then as I do now:

Culver Colors

The morning sun lighted the pretty fall colors -- reflecting them in the calm surface of the lake. Set with the blue sky and fluffy white clonds it made this scene as "Pretty as a Picture"

Halloween First Saturday

First Saturday Frederick-Halloween theme. I liked the tombstone that said "Here lies the Pilsbury Doughboy; he will rise again"

HZ Residence on 100 East Third

The initials H and Z are on the shale shingles of this old building. A mystery but likely the original owners. This Victorian was built probably around 1890 based on the dates of neighboring properties. The lot next is not occupied and next to that is the old Quinn Chapel it is now called "Georgetown apartments" On occasion I have stopped to photograph resident -- like this old fellow who stopped to rest on the porch

Rebel Bones

At Washington Cemetery
"Sirs, you have no reason to be ashamed of your Confederate dead; see to it they have no reason to be ashamed of you."
Robert Lewis Dabney, Chaplain for Stonewall Jackson. Chief of staff and Clergyman of the Presbyterian Church of the South. Read this day in the presence of those fell under Stonewall and Dabney at Antietam and the Memorial Collect from the Prayer Book

Annapolis Rocks

View of Greenbrier Lake. Hiked 2.2 miles from US 40 on the AT. Chatted with a fellow tying a rope for a belay anchor and his climb and reflected on Morning Prayer

Spring Bunny

I met this little fellow along the trail walk from Shifferstadt Hause to the Fairvirew Bridge along Carroll Creek. He froze about 10' from me in the open. I expect he figured he was invisible. So we watched one another while I took his picture, edited it to crop it, and wrote this musing. Freezing, must be an innate defense mechanism against predators, and this little fellow is practicing. Finally, two step toward him prompted him into tall grass a foot away.

Spring Pods Opening

While approaching a grand old tree in the park I noted some large object floating down and then observed that the walk was littered with the delightful cotton like objects. The underside has hundreds of small pods that have opened and seeds to begin a new life

Sycamore Seeking Sunshine

This old sycamore beside the bridge over Rock Creek is reaching out for sunshine over the center of the creek

Day Lillies by Rock Creek

Pretty in person. IPhone 4S cannot replicate the beautiful orange. I have my Nikon FG with Fuji 400 Xtra so I won't miss these beauties. Time to upgrade to iPhone 5 which has better color balance

Intruding Squirrel in a Fix

This fellow died a slow death of dehydration likely. He was where he should not have attempted to enter. My guess is to try to eat the bird eggs

New Neighbors

These gold fish are a new addition to the linear park in the faux Carroll Creek across from the Courthouse They hang out amongst the recently added lilly pads. I think that appropriate here as it is all artificial. I must bring some food down for them

Off to visit the Greeks 😏

Carroll's Mill

Carroll's Mill built in 1812 by Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737-1832), our kinsman and the wealthy landowner and signer of the Declaration of Independence. Site was within his 17,000-acre wilderness tract called "Carrollton Manor"; his grandfather Charles Carroll the settler acquired the land from grants and a treaty with the Tuscorora

Frederick Steeples

The ubiquitous token of our city is the skyline of Church Steeples. I came across this interesting treatment of that symbol on a photo-walk this pleasant evening at Flights of Fancy in Everedy Square-Shab Row

Dumpster Had A Great Fall

It took me a minute this morning to locate our dumpster. Here it is sitting catawampus with all the trees knocked down. I think someone must have discarded some old Oreos and the Cookie Monster attacked last night.   From long-legged beasties good Lord deliver us!

Cold Culler

A pretty snow-covered Culler lake just across from my Carroll Creek abode. I wonder if the temperatures will ever support ice skating again as enjoyed in years long past

A Pause to Remember the Fallen

Confederate soldiers uncover at the sound of taps. Before them in blue is the contingent of Union reenactors "slain" before the stone wall at Mayre's Heights. Lee is quoted there as saying

www.quotationspage.com/.../Robert_E.
It is well that war is so terrible - otherwise we would grow too fond of it.

A Face of Determination

Fredericksburg -- Sunday 9 December I celebrated at Holy Communion and bid friends prayers of remembrance for the thousands on both sides who fell for their causes 150 years before. That afternoon I made my way towards the sunken road. I watched columns of Union troops march ever onward and captured this one face in the formation which struck me as the epitome of the sense of purpose that day and 150 years ago (Yashica FX-3 Super 400 ASA Fujifilm)
