Purple Cow Restaurant

The historic Purple Cow Restaurant is a landmark of Beattyville. My first visit was, I believe, in the late 60s. I reckon it got its name from this poem.
I never saw a purple cow
I never hope to see one
But I can tell you anyhow
I'd rather see than be one

This is part of a mural the covers the entire wall of the restaurant that was painted by Elsie Patrick, she was a local school teacher an painted other landmarks in Beattyville including historic St Thomas Church built by my grandfather in law Richard Lyons
