These ferry pylons rise from the James amidst a noisome smoke that has settled over the Peninsula. Some-odd 5,500 acres have been scorched in the largest fire in the Great Dismal Swamp recorded history. Last night I observed private firefighter checking in to our hotel in Smithfield, and now I suspect the are here to fight the blaze. See more here
