At the corner of Patrick and Maxwell sits this very old marker with a metal spike protruding from its upper surface. The nice lady in the Vintage shop next to the marker paused to kindly explain a bit of its history. It served as a half-way point between Hagerstown and Baltimore (45 miles) and as a survey point. One could probably look at the old Pike map and determine its approximate original location. I can imagine if it had eyes we would have quite a history of the commerce and military movements that have passed by this old way point.
