Angelo of the Air Force

This evening after a stroll and capturing a few choice photos, I walked back home toting a poke with half a sub--the $5 footlong special for March, a toasted Tuna. As I walked by the tennis courts at Baker Park a fellow dressed in an old olive drab field jacket with his cart trailing behind him hailed me and asked for a dollar. I responded that I would give him half a sub. He said it was better than nothing. I then asked what he had asked for, and he said $1. I gave him $5 and a blessing. I noted his jacket and asked if he was a veteran. He said yes and showed me his GI sleeping bag too. He said he had been in the air force for 45 years and he was 58 years old :). He opened his wallet and in the ID slot he showed me his ID -- a torn piece of old cloth that had the USAF and wings on it. I wished him well and safety after we exchanged names and admonished him to spend his $5 well.
