Leesburg Memorial

This Confederate memorial stands square in front of the Loudoun County Courthouse of 1898. It was erected on May 28, 1908. Tis early this Sunday morning and the suns strikes the Rebel's side while the lighting makes the statue dark against the old courthouse. As observed yesterday the 8th Virginia was largely from Loudoun County. It fought first just south of here at 1st Manassass and last surrendered with Lee, having only three men of the original regiment in its ranks. That is persistence in the face of overwhelming adversity. That is the spirit that America must engender to maintain her freedom. Persistence was no less shown in those regiments which faced the 8th such as the 15th and 20th Mass.
