We picked up a professional grade digital camera for Zetta that is famous for capturing correct tonal quality in portraits. If it looks like the Nikon N50 it is because Fuji built it on the Nikon N80 film chassis. It now shares lenses with the N50 -- sweet. 6mp normal with up to 12mp for the bigger projects.

Rescue Mission

This attractive old home serves the Frederick Rescue Mission. Evidently, there is a fund campaign and a remodeling effort underway. I appreciated the Beacon Lighthouse sign writ large; " Jesus Christ - the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow." Amen. Certainly this message has been contested by several heretical sects which would like to rewrite the words of our Lord as recorded in the canon of the New Testament-or politely ignore them when they challenge the secular values they have adopted. Recently, one of these types of missions was criticized by the TEC Bishop of Washington for their Evangelical effort and constancy in their doctrines reflected in this quotation. We may do well to remember that it is often those on the fringes who benefit most from these missions. I believe the Rescue Mission follows the example of our Lord in showing compassion and providing material comfort, and also follow his command to teach in his name.

Charleston Shrimp and Grits

I decided to treat myself to a Southron meal on the Lee Jackson weekend. After attending the dedication at the double equestrian monument, I joined the Mechanized Cavalry Camp 2134 for a dedication for a member's ancestor (A Sanner) followed by a camp meeting. We then joined compatriots on Confederate Hill with other camps and Maryland Division for remembrance and light refreshments. I retired to Langermann's Restaurant along the Harbor to enjoy this spicy meal of shrimp, sausage, and grits with a cup of coffee. It is welcomed after spending several hours in the cold this day. I heartily commend it (2400 Boston St. in the old American Can factory). I found the Mech Cav site here

Lee-Jackson Day

Wyman Park Baltimore
I am here with about 100 or so participants and observers as the SCV and UDC commemorate generals RE Lee and TJ "Stonewall" Jackson. The 14th is the official date in Virginia this year, but this weekend is observed throughout the US and even the world and the original and permanent day is the 19th. These men represented the best in the Army of Virginia, indeed, the whole South, and distinguished in their service to the United States and the Confederate States

Duck Defilade

Smart Ducks! The temperature is about 30 and the windspeed is 20-30 and gusting. Wind chill cuts to the bone. These smart fine-feathered friends have found some relief just across from home in the warmer-than-air waters of Carroll Creek, plus its banks offer good protection from the direct blast of cold arctic air. One can see the mostly frozen Culver Lake in the background.

NO ICE SKATING

Dumb Ducks. Here they are on Culver Lake clearly ignoring this City of Frederick Ordinance posted here that shows a figure of a duck and below the sign reads, "No Ice Skating". Most of these fine feathered friends are right out there on the ice quacking it up and having an good New Years Day ice skating party.

Decorations Along Church Street

This one door took my fancy today. I walked up Church Street its full length and shot a roll of film to further test the old Nikon FG. Of all the Christmas decorations on the doors, and many were pleasing, I returned here for this musing post. This is New Year's Eve and the Eve of the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus. Our tradition has 12 days of Christmas and I am still celebrating
