Custard's Last Stand
Rita's is located just up the street from my abode and this was just the indulgence that I craved this evening. There is something about the texture, temperature, consistency and flavor that sets Rita's Frozen Custard apart from Mr Softy type deserts. This is the last custard stand that I know of in these parts and it is excellent. This Strawberry Custard in a waffle cone with Rainbow Sprinkles is wonderful sitting and relaxing on one of their park benches -- "ice, custard, happiness" their sign reads -- and that's no Bull ;-)

Pedimented Portico
Frederick --
This pretty marble Pedimented Portico is located on Church Street as the old Office entrance for the Farmers and Mechanics Bank. This beautiful old building is a Greco Roman Revival style of architecture and is most impressive. The Greeks used the pediment on the temples to honor their gods. The Romans copied the style and also honored citizens of high standing Look closely and one can see in the reflection the photographer in the midst of the portico below the pediment ... ;-)

All Saints Church and Parish
Frederick
Zetta's ancestor, Humberton Lyon, was a signatory in about 1742 to form All Saints Parish. All Saints Street was the first location of a parish church and is gone now. He moved to Virginia later. In 1815, this building was erected on Court Street and served the parish until 1855. It was replaced by the current church on Church Street to which it is connected. It would be interesting to check the parish register for any record of her grandfathers and kinsmen.

The SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION
Well sub-titled. I was surprised to see this given the bias toward the "civil war" and below it This is one of the titles that I prefer. In a letter written by Lt Col Robert E Lee before the secession of Virginia to his son, he also referred to the possibility of a coming "revolution" and "civil war) which he hoped and prayed would never come to be (GWCurtis Lee Jan 1861). Where is Jefferson Davis? See more here http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Robert_E._Lee

We are Four Cycling
Carroll Creek Covered Bridge
On the walk home this evening I was hindered temporarily by these four cyclists. One apologized but I assured Jim it was no problem in that I benefited from this photo. Taken with the IPhone but with a new app. Camera+

Chief Grumpy Face
While awaiting a shooting lane at the Semper Fi Range in Nicholasville, I observed this statue that my Daughter Dear had sent to me in a photo last month. Today I met him face to face.

Birthplace of the Kentucky River
The title on this banner on main street is quite attractive and has a marketing quality. The artwork also captures this essential feature of our little town of about 1,200 citizens and is equally attractive. The city council and fiscal court recently funded an effort for tourism and this may be the fruit of that effort. I live between the two forks of the river just about 400 yards from where they meet: Carrollton on the Southfork

Chatham Mansion
The architecture is notable here, but nothing impressed me more than this facsimile of a 1789 painting of the activity on the 1300 acre plantation The large mansion overlooked the river and Fredericksburg was financed by the toil of the enslaved. As I walked through the gardens with the many statues of cherubs, I knew that only the children of the house under the eye of their mammy would have been permitted to enjoy them, at the expense of the stripes and chains about their servants who toiled most of the day -- Sundays excepted.

"Huey" Utility Helicopter
Army Heritage and Education Center
The Army is quite busy adding to its displays here at Carlisle. I spent a lot hours in and around these birds in my first assignment with the 101st Airborne Division The display is right along Interstate 81 so it gets lots of exposure. In the same area is a plaque that speaks of the work of the 7th Cav at LZ X-RAY. I was a PZ group leader and we sometimes named our PZs and LZs after our wives. My beloved remindes me recently that there was an "LZ ZETTA".

Flying Service
Mt Alto PA
I appreciated the recycled flying device sign now serving an old car restoration business. I think the "A" stands for "Aviation" Seen along Hwy 997 enroute to Carlisle I note to the right an old red Chevy S10 -- a gift from my beloved. It could do with a few fix ups. Hmmm

Chief Bearclaw
Wayneboro PA
This fine figure stands watch at the entrance to Christie's House of Pipes and Cigars on Main Street. I've not seen one quite like him before. He is in good shape and so I suspect he is a fair weather sentry. I dubbed him Bearclaw for the necklace he wears. Look close and you will see a fox stole around his neck. It was rather good that I spied this fellow, as I had left my pouch at home. The clerk convinced me to get some very good "MA Cherry". A treat for this trek. Very nice :)

Church for Sale
Waynesboro PA
This beautiful old stone church is for sale The sign says. New low price. I would judge it to have been constructed in the latter portion of the 19th century. One problem is upkeep. The other is that churches all over are losing members. The old generation that grew up in the day where nearly everyone of any standing in a community was a member of some church has been replaced today where in the youngest generation it seems the opposite. Turn turn turn. For everything there is a season.

Secession Suppressed
Kemp Hall. Market & Church. Lincoln was holding a certain number of Baltimore legislators in custody so as to prevent them from voting here in April 1861. If they had not been under arrest (violation of the Constitution as Lincoln illegally suspended Habeas Corpus), Maryland would have likely seceded. The SCOTUS is in deliberation now over the law that forces each American to purchase healthcare insurance as yet another breach of American's rights -- as it is considered by many to be a direct violation of several parts of the Constitution not to mention the assault on religion in forcing groups to offer birth control and abortion.

Palm Procession
Frederick -- this large crowd of Hispanic folk were in procession this afternoon along Church Street from Baker Park to the Catholic Church In commemoration of Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem at the time when pilgrims were arriving before Passover. This is one of the few signs on the public square we see of the purpose of the season -- vice the fertility symbols of eggs and bunnies
